Criteria for member admission
How to become an IPFA member
Members are admitted to the tiered membership structure in the following ways:
- Through recognised qualifications in the Public Sector
The Institute has developed four qualifications, consisting of a Certificate, Diploma and Degree in Public Sector Accounting as well as Masters Degree in Public Sector Financial Management. These qualifications were registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) in October 2001.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
An RPL policy will be applied that will focus on the competencies acquired by potential members via either life experience, formal or informal learning. Assessment will form an integral part of the RPL and members will be required to demonstrate competence via different assessment methods on different tiers.
- Learnerships in Public Sector Accounting
Members who have successfully completed learnerships that lead to the four qualifications in public sector accounting will gain admission to the Institute’s Tiered Membership Structure.
